The National Dish - Swiss Cheese Fondue

Chocolate and mountains, but certainly also cheese.

All this is evocative of Switzerland in the collective imagination, with decidedly foreground taste together with alpine landscapes. And certainly the Fondue here is a typicality with a strong added value. To prove it there are even two stamps that Swiss Post sends on track since November 15th.

Cheese Fondue

Mountains, chocolate and banks are the first things that come to mind of a foreigner thinking of Switzerland. But immediately after(and sometimes even before) comes cheese. And those who have tasted the fondue in a mountain hut can not but automatically associate it with good spirits.

And if you have the appetite, then you can take a little thought on an excursion to the Fondue Country, Gstaad, in the Saanenland region of the Bernese Oberland: thanks to the placid topography and the numerous cheese specialties, here the setting is perfect to enjoy a fondue in the middle of nature.

Swiss Post is sure to present it with the tasty issue of two stamps that are centered on the Fondue. The two new Swiss stamps are also printed in sheets, with the motifs "Caquelon" and "Cheese" and the list of ingredients called to pay homage to this particularity of the country beyond the Alps

There are even many Guides, explaining in Details, how best to eat and enjoy the Cheese Fondue like a real Swiss. If you happen to be in Zurich, a good place to give Fondue a try is the Swiss Chuchi Restaurant in Zurich Old Town.

And if you have the appetite, then you can take a little thought on an excursion to the Fondue Country,

Gstaad, in the Saanenland region of the Bernese Oberland: thanks to the placid topography and the numerous cheese specialties, here the setting is perfect to enjoy a fondue in the middle of nature. Where you can walk the Fondue Trail, here's how: you buy a fondue mix, you put the backpack on the shoulder with all the other ingredients, ie caquelon, burner and bread, and we start for this delicious gastronomic discovery.

The Fondue Route offers hikers and refined palates an outdoor experience dedicated to fondue, which includes a highly informative hike. In the Schönried dairy, first the "Fondue" backpack is retracted with everything you need. Then you go up to the Rellerli, Schlittmoos or Wispilei, and after a panoramic excursion you prepare the outdoor fondue, surrounded by nature.

The backpack can be returned to the valley station or to the hotel (the dairy will wash the material).

And of course, not to forget the Fondue Tram in Zurich

A ride on the Fondue Tram is pure enjoyment. While the lights of Zurich’s inner city pass by outside, the staff from the Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten will serve you a delicious cheese fondue, as well as a starter and dessert.

The old-timer tram departs from Bellevue and passes by all of Zurich's most beautiful places – such as along the Limmatquai, lined with historical guild houses, past Paradeplatz and over the Quaibrücke bridge between the River Limmat and Lake Zurich.
