Discover Zurich - The unofficial Capital
If you are Travelling to Switzerland, it's likely that Zurich will be your first stop.
It is Switzerland's largest City and one of Europe's main Economic, Cultural and Financial Centers.
It is also often mistakenly referred to as Swiss Capital, which is not (Berne is the Capital).
Getting from the Zurich Airport to the City Center is rather simple and cheap, assuming you will use Public Transportation, which is recommended.
A One Way ticket for the Train or Streetcar will cost you around 6 Euro, Train will take you in 10 min to the Zurich Main Train Station, while the Streetcar takes about 30 minutes, but includes a nice "Sightseeing Tout" of Zurich and surrounding Area on the way.
A Taxi will cost you around 50-55 Euro and will need 25-30 minutes to City Center.
Transportation in Zurich
For moving around in the City, it is strongly recommended that you buy a Day Ticket for Public Transportation. For the Price of around 7 Euro, you can use all forms of Public Transport in the City for 24 Hours, including the Boats at Zurich Lake.
There is a nice collection of the main Sightseeing Points, with maps and directions. You can also book some of the many City Tours that are being provided straight from the Website.
The Alternative is to book at your Hotel upon arrival or at the main Tourist Information Center at the Zurich main Train Station.
Reaching other popular destinations in Switzerland is also very easy, in 2 hours you can reach any Town or Mountain in Switzerland.
There are also Tours and Excursions organized which start in Zurich and return you back to the City, once the Tour is finished.
